The increased demand for animal protein, the (re-) emergence of zoonotic pathogens and public health risks such as antimicrobial resistance and the scarcity of resources and capacities within the public or private spheres of Veterinary Services.
The Veterinary Services have an unprecedented responsibility to ensure a safer and healthier global community and play a significant role in contributing to the achievement by 2030 of several of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The OIE PPP Handbook explains the many different types and opportunities for PPP to strengthen veterinary services along the livestock value chain, from producers to consumers. It provides also guidelines for impactful and sustainable public-private partnerships. It helps also investors to select PPPs with the highest chance of success and impact, based on a PPP evaluation tool developed with researchers from CIRAD.
The PPPs in veterinary domain have the potential to improve the quality of Veterinary Services worldwide, while building robust and sustainable animal health systems contributing to the health and well-being of human populations.
